Biodiversity Director

The Board Non-executive Director for Corporate Biodiversity & Sustainability will play a crucial role in guiding the strategic direction and development of NatureHelm, our new product in the corporate biodiversity data accountability and reporting space. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the biodiversity conservation space as well as a deep understanding of corporate sustainability reporting and data management. They will also have a strong network within the SBTN (Science Based Targets Network) and TNFD (Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures).

Candidates from Europe, the UK or other locations globally are encouraged to apply since this is a remote position working at a global scale.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic guidance and direction to the startup company, with a focus on the development and launch of the corporate biodiversity data accountability and reporting product

  • Provide thought leadership on issues related to biodiversity conservation and corporate sustainability reporting, and represent the company at conferences, events, and other industry gatherings

  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices related to corporate sustainability reporting and biodiversity conservation, and advise the company on how to incorporate these trends into their product offering

  • Work with the CEO and other senior executives to develop and implement operational plans that support the organization's strategic objectives.

  • Work closely with the Chairperson and other board members to develop and implement the organization's strategic plan, with an emphasis on to the new biodiversity data and reporting product.

  • Leverage their networks within the corporate biodiversity/sustainability market, including SBTN and TNFD, to build relationships with key stakeholders and potential customers

  • Ensure that the organization is complying with all relevant laws and regulations, including those related to corporate governance

  • Collaborate with other board members to ensure the company is meeting its overall goals and objectives

  • Represent the organization to stakeholders, including shareholders, customers, and employees, and communicate its vision and values effectively.

  • Ensure that the organization's financial performance is managed effectively, including monitoring budgets and financial reports, and making recommendations for improvement where necessary to mitigate risk and maximize shareholder value

  • Attend board meetings and other relevant meetings and contribute to discussions and decision-making.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in the biodiversity conservation or sustainability space, with a focus on corporate data management and reporting

  • A deep understanding of corporate sustainability (ESG) reporting frameworks and standards (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD) and experience working with corporate sustainability teams

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and provide effective oversight within rapidly evolving markets

  • A strong network within the SBTN and TNFD, with a track record of building relationships with key stakeholders and driving business results

  • Experience serving on a board of directors, ideally for a startup company working to establish strong presence and traction in emerging markets

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of an organization

  • Strong analytical skills and experience working with data management tools and software

  • A commitment to the organization's values and mission

  • Have capacity to commit the necessary time and effort required for the role

  • Relevant industry experience in business, management or a related field

  • A passion for sustainability and biodiversity conservation, and a desire to make a positive impact through their work.
